The fiancée visa, also known as the K1 visa, or fiance visa, is one of the most popular, and most expedient methods for U.S. Citizens to bring their foreign fiancé/fiancées to the USA for marriage. K1 Visa applications have become quite popular due to the popularity of the internet. Before the internet was common place, the K1 visa was in existence for those people who happened to meet a love interest abroad, then decided to marry. But now, it is so easy to meet an individual in another country online, and then fall in love.

Obtaining a K1 visa is a complicated process, however if it is properly prepared, the success rate is quite high. Many people choose to prepare their Fiancee Visa applications on their own, however, if you are not very good with paperwork, you may want to seek out professional assistance. If you make any serious mistakes, it could end up resulting in a denial.

In order to qualify for the K1 visa, you must meet all of the USCIS REQUIREMENTS.
If you meet the requirements, then you can proceed to file your K1 visa application.
This process begins with the U.S. Citizen filing the application with the USCIS Texas Service Center. There are several forms that must be filled out and included with the supporting documentation that the USCIS requires. The two main forms that need to be included in the application are the G325A, and the I-129F. The I-129F is completed and signed by the U.S. citizen, while the G325A consists of two copies. One copy of form G325A needs to be filled out and signed by the foreign fiancee. One passport style photo of the foreign fiancee must also be attached to his/her form. One copy of form G325A must be filled out and signed by the U.S. Citizen. One passport style photo of the U.S. citizen must be attached to his/her form.

The supporting documents will need to be included with the signed, completed forms when you submit the petition to the USA. Some of the supporting documents that you should include are:

- Photos of the petitioner and beneficiary together as proof of their actual physical meeting.

- Copies of the petitioner’s passport title page, and any passport pages with entry/exit stamps associated with visits with the beneficiary.

- A copy of the petitioner’s birth certificate.

- If applicable, final divorce decree from any and all prior marriages. In case of termination of marriage by death of a former spouse, a copy of the certificate of death.

- If (you kept these) copies of airline and/or travel receipts associated with any visits with the beneficiary.

- A copy of the birth certificate from the beneficiary. Any documents not in English will need to be translated.

- If applicable, divorce documents from the beneficiary. In case of termination of marriage by death of a former spouse, a copy of the certificate of death. Any documents not in English will need to be translated.

- If available, a photocopy of the beneficiary’s passport title page.

- Copies of correspondence exchanged by the petitioner and beneficiary. These can include emails, phone records, online chat sessions, etc.

A third form is required for the I-129F Fiancee visa process, but it does not come into play until the day of the interview. This form is called the I-134 affidavit of support. This form must be completed and signed by the U.S. Citizen, and it must be included with supporting financial documents proving that the U.S. Citizen meets all the income requirements, and demonstrates beyond a doubt that he/she can support their future spouse in the USA. The beneficiary must take all of these documents to the interview.

When your K1 visa application is approved by the USCIS, the application will be sent to the National Visa Center for additional processing. It normally takes about two weeks for the NVC to complete their processing. They will in turn forward the approved Fiancee Visa petition to the U.S. consulate in the country where your fiancée resides. Each Consulate usually has a different method of contacting the foreign fiancée. It can be by mail, or by email. Sometimes the fiancée even has to take the first step, and contact the consulate themselves. An interview will then be scheduled, and after the interview, and if the K1 visa is approved, the fiancé/fiancée will receive their visas, and then they will have up to six months to travel to the USA.
